Springfield police investigating second shooting, crash of Tuesday morning

Springfield police are investigating a shooting and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-car crash around Southern and Johnny Lytle avenues on the south side of Springfield on Tuesday morning.

According to police at the scene, the crash happened in an alley between Johnny Lytle and Southern avenues, and one person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries following a shooting on Southern Avenue.

Police would not say if the shooting and crash were connected, or if the incidents were related to another shooting and crash around the same time Tuesday morning a few miles away at Main and Belmont in east Springfield.

Clark County Prosecutor Dan Driscoll was at the scene of the Southern Avenue incident.

Police were investigating in the backyard of a duplex in the 100 block of West Southern Ave., between Center Street and Wittenberg Avenue.

A neighbor, Rosny Petit, said that his house was struck several times in the shooting, with a bullet coming through his bathroom. He said no one in the home was injured and he is unsure of the shooting’s circumstances.
